These days there are multiple diverse diploma after MBBS course options for aspiring doctors to choose from and excel in at CPS.

One of these courses which have a lot of potential for a doctor is Ophthalmology. An ophthalmologist is an eye care specialist. Also known as eye surgeons, they often enjoy a high paying career. The important tasks undertaken by these professionals include taking care of patients with eye conditions, diagnosing, treating and preventing disorders or diseases of the eyes and visual system. An Ophthalmologist is qualified and trained to deliver total eye care meaning vision services, eye examinations, and medical and surgical eye care.In case of severe eye conditions these professionals are well equipped with all the knowledge to perform various surgeries such as:

Glaucoma: The second leading cause of blindness in the world, this condition damages the optic nerve from fluid build-up in the eye.

Cataracts: Most common in elderly people, this condition makes the eyes cloud, rendering one with a blurred or no vision at all.

Retinal Detachment: A serious eye condition that happens when the retina of the eyes pulls away from its supportive tissues.

In addition there are various benefits of choosing a career path in this specific field of medicine, a professional Ophthalmologist's work may vary depending on their area of expertise. A few specialized areas of this field include pediatric ophthalmology, neuro ophthalmology and ocular oncology. Moreover the various advancements and researches have enabled these professionals to keep learning and adapting. So much so that most clinics and hospitals take care of the further education of training of these individuals so that they may stay up-to-date and keep honing their skills. Salary increases and job promotions are also frequently recurring feats in the career.  An individual might choose to practice by themselves or work with a team of other ophthalmologists depending on their administrative demands. Employment opportunities are never scarce; it is a vastly growing and a highly paced career option to choose from. Some specialists in eye surgery are already reporting job shortages and lack of manpower. Job securities are also assured and the return on investment in the end is preposterous.

An average office working Ophthalmologist makes at least 50 lakh rupees a year whereas a self-employed one might end up minting up to a whopping 80 lakh rupees a year. Unlike other medicinal professionals these individuals mostly work a standard 8 to 5, except some emergency cases and they also have ample vacations and holidays on their plate.
